Review Of Love Letter.

Love Letter is a simple card game for 2-5 players with a back story about trying to court a princess by getting your love letter to or closer too her than the other players.

The back story is exactly that and is not relevant to the actual game. The real goal is to attempt to get the card with the highest possible number by the end of the game.

You can only hold one card at a time so each round you must take a single card and discard one. The discarded card has an action associated with it such as being able to guess what another players card is. Often this results a player being knocked out of the round. As you can always see all cards that have been discarded it adds to a fair bit of strategy trying to work out what cards other players are holding.

It is pretty fast to play the game taking only a few minutes for a round. The winner of the game is the first person to win 7 rounds.

As a quite light family game that is fast enough that being knocked out of a round is not an issue for a 4 year old it is excellent. Our children are 9,6 and 4 and all can play and enjoy it. The four year old did need help learning what the action of each card is as he could not read the description but after a reasonable number of rounds he seemed to get on with it OK even if his play is not that strategic.

When we got the game my other half put each card in a cellophane bag. There are not that many cards so was easy to do and did not interfere to badly with shuffling them. It has greatly helped protect the cards from damage. They are not badly made but the abuse they get from three excited children means the cards need all the help they can get.

Damaged cards would wreck the game as the fun is in trying to work out what other have.

You can pick it up on amazon or other shops and if you have any youngish children it is certainly well worth it. If you know adults who like a light, slightly strategic, game that can be enjoyed with wine then this may also be for you.
